Check out a site called "timedollar.org". Its unique idea has a lot of good intentions behind it.
Summary: Are you good at what you do? How about donating only one hour of your time to the community? You get "paid" in the like. For every hour you donate, you get one hour of someone else's skills to solve your problem. Say, you are a tax accountant. You spend one hour helping someone do his/her taxes. In return, you can get your most pressing computer problems solved by another person who is good at computers. Neat. The IRS does not consider this a barter and therefore imposes no tax consequences. Plus, you build your network in your community.
